Sonali Deraniyagala is a memoirist and economist. She is Visiting Professor at Columbia University, New York. She is the author of the memoir Wave (Knopf, Virago) which won the PEN/Ackerley Prize, a finalist for the National Book Critics Awards, a New York Times Best 10 books of 2013, and one of the New York Times 50 Best Memoirs of the Past 50 Years. She is also the co-author of Disasters and Development (Columbia University Press 2025) – a primer on the effects of climate shocks on economic development.
