DAVID BYRNE AND LAURIE ANDERSON - A Glimpse of New York City: Art Now
Join David Byrne and Laurie Anderson, icons of the New York art scene, who will present a selection of the work they have produced during the past year in lockdown - including footage and recordings, especially selected for this event.
David has co-created SOCIAL! - a social-distanced dance club: interactive, music-and-movement based experiences in which the audience is invited to dance under their own spotlights while listening to David’s instructional voiceover. He has also been making a series of thirty hand drawn illustrations for Pace Gallery; and released We Are Not Divided, a six week body of multimedia journalism that aims to bring people together through art and education, which is, in turn, part of his editorial project, 'Reasons to be Cheerful' which uses solutions journalism to bring more hope into the world.
Laurie has been working on a series of radio conversations with friends and colleagues. Laurie, who’d always dreamed of having a radio show in the middle of the night, took the opportunity in her first broadcast to address to racial inequality and George Floyd’s death. In May 2021 she will launch and perform ‘Party in the Bardo’ at the Park Avenue Armory, in collaboration with James Moran and other guests and accompanied by Lou Reed’s Drones.
David and Laurie will also touch upon their past work and collaborations with Lou Reed, Peter Gabriel, Brian Eno, David Bowie, Kronos Quartet, Spike Lee, St Vincent, Talking Heads, Fat Boy Slim, Meatloaf and many more… putting into context their substantial contribution to the contemporary music scene world-wide.
