Anthony Sattin is the author of books of history and travel, a journalist and broadcaster. Much of his work has focused on the Middle East and North Africa, including highly acclaimed books of history and travel and two biographies, A Winter on the Nile and Young Lawrence. His latest book, Nomads, The Wanderers Who Shaped Our World, described as ‘important, generous and beautifully written,’ was a History Book of the Year in The Times, Sunday Times, Spectator and elsewhere. The New York Times calls him ‘a terrific storyteller.’
Anthony is a graduate of the University of East Anglia’s Creative Writing Masters programme and began writing fiction, published by Jonathan Cape, before being distracted by a lucrative offer to travel for the Sunday Times. He has been in motion, and juggling writing books and journalism, ever since. For almost a decade he wrote a Book of the Week column for the Sunday Times. His journalism has appeared in publications around the world, from the Guardian and Conde Nast Traveller to al Jazeera and the Washington Post. His broadcast work includes a series of documentaries for BBC radio on subjects as diverse as Abu Dhabi’s great culture project to Jan Morris’s drawers.
He is currently writing about why ancient Egypt matters, and learning about oak and olive trees in the heart of Italy.
