Inni-K’s music draws on her extensive background in folk and traditional Irish music, even as she ventures into new musical territories. Her original songwriting (The Hare & the Line 2019 and The King has Two Horse’s Ears 2015), combines ethereal vocals with deft musicianship, evocative lyrics and a unique approach to song-writing. Inni-K’s highly celebrated third studio album Iníon, released in 2022 is a contemporary sean-nós album.
Described by The Irish Times as ‘a sparkling collection of songs that shimmer in the heat of Inni-K’s warm, unforced voice,’ and ‘an album of tremendous understatement, power and beauty’ by Folk Radio UK, Iníon has received such accolades as ‘Top of the World’ album by Songlines Magazine and picked up two nominations in RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards 2022, for Best Folk Album and Éamonn an Chnoic, for Best Traditional Folk Track.
As someone who’s collaborated with everyone from Liam Ó Maonlaí and Cormac Begley (in their band, Ré) to renowned jazz drummer Jeff Ballard, and shared stages with Malian kora master, Toumani Diabaté and Efterklang, Inni-K (aka Eithne Ní Chatháin) is an artist who’s forged her own path on a foundation of sean-nós song, but with a clear sense of exploration of its outer reaches.
